My sniper division, was unluckily obliterated by it. I was knocked unconscious; barely gasping for air. Various thoughts filled my headà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ A chunk of our team snipers wiped out within a second, including my long time friend PFC Ransom, two year Green Beret sniper specialist, I use to drink Michelob with back in college before we got drafted. I almost forgot it was a couple days before it would be my birthday. I cant believe the war was almost over because it seems like it has lasted for an eternity. How did I get knocked unconscious? I couldnt even recall the face of my wife and the baby girl she gave birth to from what I read in her letter. I have to defend the bridge at all costs, but am I even alive? à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦But the only thing that ran through my head at the moment was how devastating the end of this skirmish between China and us it was and how it shouldve been. The conflicts between the U. S. and China that would last for a decade all started on April 1st, 2001 when U. S. a UP-403 spy plane collided with a Chinese F-8 fighter jet, killing the Chinese pilot and tearing one of the wings of the spy plane as it safely landed into a Chinese air field. As Chinese officials demanded an apology for the mishap, they kept the crew of 24 as hostage for eighteen days forming one of the most critical standoffs in U. S. history. After the ten days elapsed, a cataclysmic event shocked the world. On April 19th, 2001, the Chinese army unloaded clip after clip from their AK-47 rifles into the 24 crew members, starting a war that would last for 10 years. Naval destroyers invaded Chinas east coast 10 days later. D-Day II a week after that unloaded 2 million soldiers into Beijing after primary cities were bombed by B-52 bombers carrying hydrogen missiles. Millions of Chinese citizens were slaughtered as villages were pillaged and women raped. Almost immediately as the Chinese president and cabinet were executed by Navy SEALs, Army Commander Xian Fa Zhan-Jiang took over as dictator of the newly re-established Communist China. With the largest army in the world in his grasp, Xians men held off many U. S. forces until more B-52 Bombers took out key military posts. Now 10 years later the war is already over it is up to me, PFC Ryan McFly and my division to hold off the Hwang-Se Bridge, west of Beijing at all costs even as the war was now over. We were one of the last divisions stationed in China that was to leave and now my four companion snipers including PFC Ransom are goneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ Ughh! I rolled my sore body over, my vision clearing. Looking around I see bloody remains of the Berets from the aftermath of the grenade. I threw aside my trusty MP5, named Sparky and opened my first aid kit to bandage some small cuts on my back and arms. His name is Sparky because hes been with me for 8 years, never failing on me and is my best friend. Whoa! No shrapnel in my arm this time! I walked over to the fragged bodies of what use to be PFC Ransom and got his dogtag, and the other dogtags of his companions. I was damn lucky not to be captured. I guess the Reds mustve presumed I got obliterated with the rest. Big mistake. Now I only have to walk a few miles through this destructed city to get to the rendezvous point where good ol PFC Okawita, Swerski, and the others are waiting for meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ July 2nd, 2001 After treading a couple miles or so, the Hwang Se Bridge came into my periphery. I also saw people in the distant view. Even if they were da boys you could never be certain so I took off the safety on Sparky and ventured onward. I finally recognized they were the platoon when I heard PFC Okawitas girly high-pitched voice McFly is that you? Say something! I was overcome with calmness and security as I brought down Sparky and replied Oh yeah its me, guysà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦McFlys still alive! As Okawita and Swerski ran over to me, PFC Swerski questioned me, So who else did you come with? I took off my fifty pound helmet. No one, Im sorry guys. The remaining Berets including Ransom all died back in the trenches. As I mumbled these words, small tears came down my eyes, as I also saw Okawitas eyes water. Tank shrapnel annihilated many of the rebels and some PFCs so I told everyone, including Okawita and Taggart to fall back, Fall back to the bridge! Brown is going to blow it up! The Chinese rebels turned against us and I saw one of them tear through the back of Taggart, the PFC reeled and screamed and fell down. They turned out to be spies working undercover for Xian. I knew that red tattoo was not right.. Brown shot two with his Colt as Okawita immediately knocked one in the Hwang-Se River from a bullet to the head and my Sparky and the other PFCs Sparkys knocked down the rest. The coast seemed clear. It was too good to be true. Placing a new dip in my mouth, PFC Williams raised his head to look across the bridge. Boom! Shot to the head! Oh shit guys, someones got a scout rifle sniping on the other side! I screamed. As PFC Edwards mobilized and tried to find a safer spot to snipe, I heard one other gunshot and he grasped his throat bleeding, crying for his mommy. Okawita, Brown, and I were sitting fucking ducks. Okawita caught glimpse of one sniper through his AW/M sight. I got a lock on.. Oh my God guys. Our sniper looks like a seven year old girrrr____ Bang! As PFC Okawita released the trigger I heard the unmistakable magnum burst from his rifle but I also heard a ping sound when Okawita dropped to the ground hitting his head. A bullet pierced through his chest, knocking him back. She was one of the few women in marketing management at Nupath and had a promising career with the company. Ornath was pleased with Washington’s work and tried to let her know this in the annual performance reviews. He now had an excellent opportunity to reward her by offering the recently vacated position of market research coordinator. One of the most prominent and perhaps the most important symbol is the titled yellow wallpaper. To the main character, Jane, the wallpaper is at first a nuisance, then an obsession, and finally salvation. The material of the paper itself represents Jane's everyday life. The illogical pattern that decorates it, reflects the absence of logic in her mind. The very color of the paper depicts the illness that yellows her sight and imprisons her within an unpredictable life. The wallpaper is at first a great annoyance to Jane; she claims that it is confusing and contradicting. Because her disease confuses her mind and contradicts her logic, the paper parallels her mental state at this point. Desperately attempting to unravel the mystery she imagines in the wallpaper, she becomes obsessed with deciphering its meaning. As her illness progresses, she begins to hallucinate and finally concludes that there is a woman trapped within that 'pointless pattern.'; Jane knows that she is the only one who can see the woman and, therefore, the woman's only chance of freedom. Slowly detaching from reality, Jane becomes the woman within the paper not only because of her obsession with it, but because of its parallel to her own life. In her final step toward insanity, she tears the paper off the walls to release the woman and herself. When her husband finds her, with the wallpaper and her sanity about her feet, she forcefully exclaims, 'I've got out at last...in spite of you and Jane. And I've pulled off most of the paper, so you can't put me back.

Full-time contract employee accounts for 72. 8%, and the part-time contract employee takes up12. 4 percentage in this company mostly in banqueting and Essence restaurant and the trainees occupy 14. 8 percen tages. The company is a newly opened hotel, and the executive building was just partly open in April, 2012.The biggest problem of the Human Resource Department is the talent gap. In order to attract more new interviewees, every Wednesday is the company Open day and people can go to the Human Resource department to hand in their CVs without an appointment. Through the monthly employee party, it can be seen that there are always new staffs join in the Hilton family. As the information shared from the HR assistant manager, the staff turn over of year 2011 was 13. 1%, it is higher than the average hotel staff turn over rate which is 10% in Shanghai (Fang Xu, 2010).The turn over of head office employees in this company is also very high, during the period of the author's internship, the General Manager, Director of Finance, Director of the operation, Director of business development, F;B manager, Front Office Manager, three Duty managers played job-hopping to another company. There are 1 1 levels accounted in Hilton, such as GM is the highest level which is 11 and trainee is level one. The salary of the trainee is 1,000RMB, around 120 per month. The biggest employee amount is level three, the average salary is 2,800RMB (=â‚ ¬346) per month, supervisors are at level 5 which can own 3,400RMB (=â‚ ¬419. ) per month. As an example gave within duty managers, the salary of foreigner' is three times than the Chinese employee in the same level position. A following SWOT analysis table shows an overall idea of the company's both internal and external conditions. The internal part includes Strengths and Weaknesses. The Strengths are more focuses on the company facilities and around the environment. For instance, the golf court is a big strong point of Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao, which is just in a walking distance. The weaknesses are mostly from the guest complains.For example, the 80RMB of parking fee is a big guest complains in this company and it happens almost everyda y. Three separated buildings are a weak point because it is very complicated for the guests to find the direction. The service quality is a frequent criticism object from customers. The external part is focused on the financial environment and competitors. Shanghai attracts 215 million domestic tourists and 8. 5 million foreign tourists in 2010. In addition, tourism revenue of Shanghai in 2010 is 305. 3 billion RMB (Shanghai tourist development report, 2012).There are 44 five-star hotels and 64 four-star hotels in Shanghai and 11 five-star and 7 boutique hotels are building up. Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao won the ‘Top Seller' in September 2012 in Asia Pacific area. The company has a lot of opportunities and it is a great time, but also it is facing with various challenges. Project Exploration During a period of 10 months, it turned out that it apparently it was difficult for employees to finish their tasks within the required time resulting in having to work o ver time.In hotel operation departments, there are three shifts, in general, morning shift staffs working from 7am till 3pm, the afternoon shift from 3pm till 11pm, and the rest hours are evening shift. However, most of the employees in Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao will spend quite long time in the shift turnover period, and it leads directly to work overtime in everyday and in every department. Furthermore, these over hours will not be counted into paid overtime working. Front office is not the only department, but it apparently most frequently in the company.Moreover, as it was written in the previous chapter, the turnover rate in Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao is higher than the average rate. Especially in front desk department, since 2011 November till 2012 September there were 5 employees quitted their job who had worked there over one year and 9 trainees had not worked over 6 months which means they quit before they became a formal staff. It be seen through the first two sentences writt en in the introductory chapter that working overtime is very normal in China and the reality shows it is a truth in Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao.This project is trying to identify the relationship between working overtime and job satisfaction, and enhance to give the managers of Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao a further consideration of monitoring overtime working and improving employee satisfaction. Meanwhile, job satisfaction is a source of long-term competitive advantage in the hospitality industry, by the core values of Hilton Worldwide which is described as Hospitality, Integrity, Leadership, Teamwork, Ownership and Now, each values have a strong connection with job satisfaction.For the Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao, this management project could be a helpful way to get more involved into employee satisfaction and measuring overtime working as well. Chapter 3. Literature Review This chapter concentrates in working overtime and job satisfaction. Figure has an intuitive feeling to compare the di fferent hours of working overtime in different places, so the first paragraph research figures to give an overview of working overtime in selected places and according to law and compare with China's situation.The following two paragraphs are in an attempt to find out who works overtime, and the reasons of people work overtime. Furthermore, the job satisfaction of different genders, the importance of job satisfaction and the relationship between job satisfaction and overtime working will be reviewed in the last paragraph. Last but not least a conceptual model covers the main point which includes the literature review. 3. 1 Working overtime In this part, the definition of working overtime is given, and some figures of overtime hours in different countries and a table of standard and maximum working hours for comparison.Working overtime is normally approved in advance by the Head of Department and is agreed in order to complete work for a deadline or to meet additional demands. Howeve r, the initial periods of less than half an hour are not classified as work overtime. Additional hours or overtime will not qualify for payments until the member of staff has worked to their number of basic contractual weekly hours (Working additional hours and overtime, 2011). Pascal and Damien (2000) found that about 20% of European employees work 45 or more hours a week, and about 13% of the full-time employee's weekly work over 50 hours.Long work hours are also a common phenomenon in the United States: more than 1/4 of US men and 11% of women work more than 50 hours a week (Jacobs ; Gerson, 2004). In addition, extreme overtime work is pervasive in Korea and Japan where many employees work more than 60 hours a week (Amagasa, Nakayama, ; Takahashi, 2005). A reach showed that there are only 13. 7 percent worked for no more than eight hours a day in China, 40. 3% worked eight to nine hours, 23. 48 percent put in nine to 10 hours a day and 22. 0 percent worked more than 10 hours (Xin hua News Agency, 2006). In generally overtime work is a common phenomenon in both Asian and Western countries. Working overtime also occurs in developed countries both in Asia and Western. Moreover, China has the most numbers of populations who work over 8 hours everyday which accounts at 86. 3%. Employers are aware of this possibility and have workplace romance policies to protect themselves and the parties in the relationship. Consensual Relationship Agreements (CRAs) are one of the policies that protect the company and the parties involved from the outcome of the relationship ending that could result into sexual harassment claims or bad publicity. This pro tects the employer from a sexual harassment lawsuit as they protect the person being harassed. CRA’s are definitely necessary to protect employers from office romances that end badly by asking the parties involved to agree that their relationship is voluntary and consensual as well as agree with the company’s sexual harassment policy. It helps minimize the employer’s liability if the relationship ends badly and it develops into a harassment claim. Lynn D.
